8 Fail-Proof Ways to Get Fresh Blog Ideas

8 Fail-Proof Ways to Get Fresh Blog Ideas

January 26, 2015 Blog 0

Writing content for your blog can be difficult. Especially when you’ve run out of ideas. It’s helpful to have a stockpile of ideas that you can reference when you get writer’s block. Here are eight blog ideas that you can use again and again.

I use Evernote to keep a list of ideas that I come back to every few weeks. Keep a list of ideas and always add to this list as soon as you get more ideas.

Idea #1 – Media Kits

Ask magazines for advertiser packs or media kits. Magazine editorial calendars can give bloggers a sense of which topics will sell easily. If magazines plan to publish content for a given topic, then you can be certain that the general public will want to read about it.

Take a look at Hello Magazine’s media kit. From browsing it we can see fashion, makeup and celebrity gossip are their 3 main sources of content.

Idea #2 – Attend a Seminar

Going to a seminar that’s related to your niche can inspire you and provide you with a month’s worth of blog posts. Take clear notes and keep any giveaways that you get. One of your posts could be a review of the seminar, perhaps a deeper insight into one of the speakers or you could touch on one of the topics that were talked about.

Take a camera with you and you’ll have an excellent photo post and you can also use these photos on social media.

Meetup is a great place for finding seminars and talks. A lot of them are free and not only will they provide you with content ideas but also a great place to network.

Idea #3 – Update an old post

Everyone has posts from their first days of blogging that’s still relevant all that’s usually needed to bring it back to life is a quick revamp. Add current statistics and references, remove outdated data, polish the formatting, add graphics and expand on your opinions. Most visitors won’t read posts that you wrote five years ago anyway, so this is a great chance to add new material to your blog.

Idea #4 – Visit Forums In Your Area Of Expertise

Do you want to know which topics are hot in your niche? What do people need to know? How can you locate colleagues and readers for networking? Simple: visit online forums. There will be forums for any niche out there, just have a search on Google and sign up to a few of the most popular. Start posting helpful advice and be sure not to spam your own links straight away.

Idea #5 – See Which Stories Are Trending on Twitter

Twitter1

The Twitter homepage lists the top 10 trending hashtags at a given point in time. Note that researching trends on Twitter is for time-sensitive posts only. Once you’ve identified your topic using this method, you don’t have the luxury of time. Write and post your article as quickly as possible to maximize your page views.

Idea #6 – Consult Your Calendar for Holidays

Start posting Christmas articles in September. Doing so will give your content a few months to age and be picked up by the search engines. Of course, you’re not going to get a lot of traffic for an article called “The 12 Tips of Christmas” in March. However, sometime in November, you could get thousands of visitors to your blog over the next month. The best part about this type of post is that you can write content for all of the major holidays.

Idea #7 – Write a Weekly Feature

An ongoing feature can range from tried and true paleo recipes to a series of video blogs about a project in progress. If your readers know that you’re going to post a feature every Wednesday, they’ll be looking for it each week. People like consistency and it should hopefully give you the drive to get the content created every week.

Idea #8 – Find a Guest Blogger

Find other bloggers in your niche, flatter them, and ask them if they would like to write posts for your blog. This approach is a win-win situation because the bloggers get exposure and you get fresh content. If you would like more visitors to your own blog, then you can suggest a post exchange. Writing for someone else’s blog gives you exposure and allows you to tap into another audience.

Some of these blog posts need preparation, such as articles that revolve around the holidays and interviews. Other articles can be done on the spot. If you think that you may be prone to blogger burnout, then keep a running list of concepts that you can have on hand for when the time comes.
