Zopa Review: A beginners journey into peer-to-peer lending

June 2, 2014 Investing 0

It’s been over 2 years since I last posted on IMH, to be honest, I grew tired of chasing Google’s latest algorithm change or wasting money on a new toy or service that promised 1st page results. Instead I invested in myself, I went back to school and started to study something I had a passion for….design. I am currently on my way to University in London to study graphic design where I hope to broaden my skills even further and in turn be able to offer even more services.

I quickly learnt that selling a service or a skill I had was a great way to make income and it was a lot easier for me instead of waiting in hope that my website was ranking on page one that day and someone decided to click on an ad. I was able to make money instantly using the skills I had. Sites like Fiverr and Freelancer have been my bread and butter and I’ve made more money than I ever had chasing those page one rankings, which, to be fair didn’t happen that much, although I don’t dispute there’s a lot of money to be made in reaching those rankings, I just didn’t have the marketing budget to match my competitors.

Anyway I’ll write a post detailing my journey from being a webmaster to a freelance graphic designer in another post, what I want to talk about today is peer-to-peer lending. I have always enjoyed reviewing services on this blog so I thought I’d start a monthly update to track my progress using a few sites I have been recommended.

I won’t go into too much detail about Zopa or the peer-to-peer lending concept, if you want to find out about the site and how it works I’d suggest clicking here.

I have jumped straight into the deep end with this one and deposited £1000 into my account. So far the process has been very smooth.

Very easy and only asks for the basic details you’d expect.

Depositing Money

Again very easy, once you select the rate you want you will be taken to a page showing the Bank Details to deposit to.

How long did it take for fund to be available?

Very quickly for me, in under 5 minutes I saw my £1000 in my account. Can’t fault the sign up and deposit process.

How soon will your money be lent?

Well as you can see from the image above, it was very quick for me. In under an hour I had £60 lent out to 6 borrowers.

How will it perform?

That’s the exciting part, we’ll be tracking this month by month to keep you updated with everything that happens on the account. Stay tuned.

Get an extra £50 in your account when you lend £2000 or more.
