I Finally Did It, An Amazon Sale!

I Finally Did It, An Amazon Sale!

December 20, 2011 Affiliate, Blog 4

Today is a good day for me, after roughly 6 months of trying to make sales on Amazon today was my lucky day!  I made my first ever sale on Amazon.  My earnings for the sale are nothing to shout about, just $11, but it’s the mental achievement that I am most happy about.  6 months is a long time to go without seeing any fruits for your labour, I kept saying to myself not to give up and keep working on my site to get the targeted traffic I needed to make the sales.  In the past I may have given up but after reading many peoples threads on forums the message I got from most people who were already successful was to stick at ONE THING until you have mastered it and can replicate it.  Only after that should you move onto other sources of revenue.

Also another mental hurdle that I got over today was the fact that I now know that I can make money through amazon affiliates.  It sounds a bit stupid, you may be saying, “Well duh Paul” but after reading people claiming they make $1,000’s every month on Amazon I become a little bit of a skeptic.  After not making any sales in the first month or 2 I was even more skeptic and started to think negatively saying to myself I had wasted my money.

So I learnt a few valuable lessons today:

  1. Don’t give up, instead analyse were you are going wrong and try to fix it.
  2. Promote cheaper, easier-to-convert products to boost up your commission % so you get more $$ from your larger sales.
  3. Get laser targeted traffic that is likely to convert, don’t try to rank for broad search terms.
  4. Research and optimize your page for BUYING keywords.  For more information on this read my post here.

I now know what I was doing wrong and will post a more detailed article about what exactly I did to make the sale.  It’s something so simple I can’t believe I didn’t do it earlier.

[alert]Update – Here is the detailed post explaining what I did to get a sale. [/alert]

Oh and here’s the proof.

    Hi Paul,

Congrats mate - I have yet to hit this significant milestone, but I hope to soon. My site is in the sig, it needs work still, but it was only born on the 12th of December so is not yet a month old, so I won't start losing hope yet.

By the way I am Luke and I commented on the WF forum about Google Analytics you made. I will add your RSS feed and keep in contact as you seem like a pretty cool guy!

Looking at your site has made me think perhaps I should do something to track progress too - perhaps I will start up a .blogspot or .wordpress.org freebie and get going!

    Lets keep in touch!

p.s. excellent domain name you got here!

      Hi Luke

Thanks for commenting, nice to know people are reading this stuff. I like your header for your site, very striking and simplistic.

Yes this is exactly why i started this site, i have been creating sites for the last year or so and thought this would be a cool way to not only track my own sites but try to make some money/influence/connections in the process. Kinda like making money from making money online hehe.

I also like to write about this stuff, and need to learn as much as i can as it will help all my sites, i usually outsource my content, but for this site i will research and write it all myself so hopefully i will learn how to write effectively AND also learn the in's and out's of marketing, SEO, link building etc.

If you are creating sites (and as we can see you have just created netipot) then that means you have something to talk about, so yes i definitely think you should setup a site to track your progress. I have found it also keeps me motivated as i not only want my sites to succeed for their own sake but also so that i have something encouraging and informative to talk about on this blog.

      Drop by any time ;)

      Cheers

      Paul

ps - i was watching this video and got the idea for the domain name - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLDitGAUrno
